Redesdale Garden Estate 75 years young

The turning of the first sod in March 1949 marked a significant point in the development of Redesdale Garden Estate. This was part of a post-war movement toward suburban development and the expansion of residential areas around Dublin. The first home was built and opened in July 1949 by then Labour Party Minister for Local Government Michael Keyes.
By February1950 one hundred homes were completed and a number of new owners moved in. Terraced houses cost a total of £1,800 made up of a deposit of £150, a £275 government grant and a loan of £1,375. Ground rent at the time was £10. Semi-detached cost £1,875 and the same grant, while ground rent was £12 10s.
Seventy five years ago on Saturday the 10th of June 1950 the very first meeting of the Redesdale Residents Association took place in the home of Mr O’Connor 26 Dale Drive. In 2009 the committee ceased to exist having worked very hard for fifty nine years on behalf of the community in Redesdale. On the 4th of June 2019, ten years later almost to the day, a well attended meeting in St. Laurence's Parish Centre unanimously agreed to reactivate the Residents Association.
Redesdale Residents Association
Seventy five years ago on Saturday the 10th of June 1950 the following entry was recorded in the very first minutes of the Redesdale Residents Association - "Mr Wallace proposed a vote of thanks to Mr O'Connor for his generosity in allowing the members use his house as a meeting place. This was seconded by all members present." With the next meeting being agreed for the following week to deal with urgent business, the first Redesdale Residents Association was born. For the following fifty nine years the association worked tirelessly for the community until it became inactive in 2008/2009.
Sixty nine years later, almost to the day, on the 4th June 2019 a well attended meeting in St. Laurence's Parish Centre unanimously agreed to reactivate the association.
